Description
The Health Department will implement a comprehensive action plan to tackle infectious diseases in the State, with an increased accent on creating public awareness. The action plan titled Jagratha is being envisaged followed the reporting of kala-azar (Leishmaniasis) in Thrissur district. At a review meeting called by Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar here on Wednesday, it was decided to take up strong awareness creation and diseases control measures in places where migrant labourers were lodged in large numbers. The meeting also mooted migrant labour health cells in all districts under deputy district medical officers. Inspection of labour camps would be taken up with the cooperation of health workers and local bodies at block/municipality/corporation levels. Health screening programmes would be held in all migrant labour camps across the State on June 28, July 5, and July 12. Mr. Sivakumar said a meeting to review the situation with respect to infectious diseases, to be chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, would be held on July 1. Ministers and officials of Health and other related departments would participate in the meeting.
