Description
In Kerala, A total of 36,010 migrant labourers have been subjected to health screening by the Health Department as part of Jagratha, its infectious diseases prevention, control, and awareness creation drive. 1,908 migrant labour camps were covered in phase 1. The second phase of the screening was held on Sunday across the State. The third phase will be held on July 12. An estimated 25 lakh migrant labourers are residing in the State in thousands of labour camps. In the first phase screening held on June 28, 378 medical teams conducted health screening in 1,908 migrant labour camps — 3,481 labourers had fever; 266, diarrhoeal diseases; and 1,052, skin diseases. To confirm malaria, blood samples were collected from 11,549 persons, says a Health Department report. It also says that 108 workers are suspected to have tuberculosis; 48, filariasis; 28, leprosy; while 72 has symptoms of H1N1 infection. Medical treatment and follow-up care of these labourers have been arranged. At a review meeting called by Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar here on Saturday, officials reported that infectious diseases, including dengue and leptospirosis, were showing a downward trend in the past three days.
