Description
The district administration of coal city is all set to launch a crackdown on child labour to make the district free from child labour. DC Kripanand Jha has issued a directive on Saturday to the state labour department of the district to coordinate with all the blocks and identify the places and units where the children are engaged. Labour department estimates say there are more than 500 children engaged in different sectors in the city primarily in eateries, construction, grocery shops, coal crusher units etc. Labour superintendent, Rakesh Kumar Sinha, said that the department has decided to launch the drive from April 17 to rescue children and minors engaged in hard labour and rehabilitate them. The move will be supplemented with an extensive campaign to sensitize people and warn them against making children work in establishments or houses, added Sinha. The labour department has formed a task force comprising police and block officials which would raid different areas to rescue child labourers. The department said, children rescued during the drive would be handed over to Child Welfare Committee (CWC) which will hand over the children to their parents. "Priority will be to ensure their proper rehabilitation so that they do not return to the same job. The children will be returned to their parents and linked to the CWCs of the district for monitoring their status. Administration of the district will also be linked up for extending necessary anti-poverty schemes for the families that force their children into labour as well as sponsorship for the rescued minors" said Labour Superintendent, Sinha. Jha while speaking to TOI said that the district will be made free of child labour. He also said that stern action will be taken against employers who have engaged children in hard labour.
