Description
With the new Juvenile Justice Care and Protection of Children Act, 2015 coming into force in the state, Antakshari Foundation with UNICEF have created a resource group for child protection with an aim to strengthen child protection structures like child welfare committees, Juvenile Justice Board and State Child Protection Society. The group includes members who have been actively involved directly or indirectly with social sector and on issues regarding child rights and child protection. Unfortunately, Rajasthan ranks high in child labour. This is quite evident from the fact that over 500 child labourers from Bihar, West Bengal and other states have been rescued in the state in the last three years. All the rescued children were sent back to their respective native places. Besides, infants who are found abandoned on regular basis in Jaipur and other places also need proper rehabilitation and adoption. However, with the formation of the protection group, the problem of such children would be solved to some extent. In order to enhance knowledge and develop the expertise of these members, sources informed, the Antakshari Foundation with UNICEF organised a two-day training programme on Juvenile Justice Care and Protection of Children Act, 2015 that started in city on Saturday. TNNThe experts on child rights from Delhi and Rajasthan held deliberations on various aspects of new Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 on the first day. While taking part in the training programme, Directorate of Child Welfare's deputy director Reena Sharma said that she expects that the newly-constituted resource group will support the child protection structures at district level. She also spoke about the efforts of the Directorate of Child Welfare towards child protection and other issues related to child welfare. Project director Govind Beniwal said the resource group will help rehabilitation of rescued children from child labour by establishing coordination between several agencies - government and other non-government agencies.
