Description
The Srikakulam Intellectuals’ Forum on Sunday asked the Labour Department to take stern action on the people who engaged children aged below 16 years in hazardous works. Forum president Pappala Jagannadha Rao said many children were denied education due to the non-implementation of the Right to Education Act. Speaking at a meeting organised here on Sunday, he said the government can impose a penalty of up to Rs.50,000 for violation of the Child Labour (Prohibition) Act. Forum convenor DP Dev, honorary president K. Poli Naidu and others felt that the government had the responsibility of implementing the Acts meant for the welfare of children.
