Description
There is a need of creating greater awareness in the society to eradicate the social evil of child labour and to promote child rights taking cognizance on the human rights. Several aspirations spark in a child’s brain when his or her mental and intellectual growth is cultivated along with physical development and this decides the future of the child, said district convener of Human Rights Commission Nalini Langar while addressing the workshop on child labour and child rights at police control room, here on Tuesday. Langar in her address said, there are three situations in which child rights are violated. They are selfishness, wrath and revenge. According to 2011 census, there are 43.53 per cent children aged between 5-14 years working as child labour in the country. The toll in Madhya Pradesh is 2, 86, 310. The menace of child labour still exists in the nation despite having laws concerning child ights, National Child Labour Prohibition and Regulations Act 1986 and RTE 2009. A child is not a criminal by birth, but the circumstances make him to commit crime, said Langar. Langar further added that child labour is one of the serious and intricate problems of our nation. They fall victim of malnutrition and starvation if they do not work and their development is blocked if they work in hotels, dhabas, restaurants and factories. It is the duty of every citizen that they should firmly act upon. United Nations on November 20, 1989 had proposed the declaration of child rights and the same was approved by 191 nations including India. SP MS Verma and key speaker Sher Singh Thakur also expressed their views. In-charge Ayog Mitra Ajeet Manglam conducted the programme while Dr GD Nagar proposed the vote of thanks.
